New Fashion Trends Focus on Color and Shape Fashion trends are changing... finally! I am not alone when I report that I am growing weary of super low-rise jeans, where it is almost indecent to bend over, teeny tank tops that are worn to SHOW more than to cover more, and What should we expect to see at our favorite stores? Many of the fashion trends are drawing from concepts that started last fall, but are taking a bit of a twist. Outfits are more proportioned, complete with shiny embellishments in rich colors and bold patterns. Here are the top trends to expect: Shape and Proportion: In 2008, women are finally demanding clothing that compliments their figures, rather than exploits them. In pants, low-rise waists are out as designers are moving waistlines upward. Tight and clingy tops are gone, in are comfortable, longer shirts such as tunics and ethnic influences. Color: Fashion lines are utilizing more greens, grays and navy blues. Right now, the deeper tones of these hues are popular, but as the weather warms and next years fashions are being developed, expect to see a bright color palette including tangerine orange, apple red and fuchsia. Embellishments: Embellishments have been gaining strength lately as pocket adornments and handbag accents. They are now being seen on pants and shirts alike. Lots of shine is being used and popular fabrics include denim, satin and charmeuse. Hardware details are popular on tops and are used on many types of jackets. Gems and sparkling accents can be found on necklines of tops and around pockets. Patterns: Right now, checked patterns are popular in tops and dress pants. Plaid fabrics are also being used in form-fitting modern outfits. These patterns will remain popular into the new year, but more geometric patterns will begin to be integrated into fashion lines. Jackets: Shorter, cropped jackets are popular and can be worn casually or when getting dressed up. An A-line style has a bit of a retro feel because of the slight flare at the bottom, and is growing in popularity in many fabric options. These jackets complement a variety of body types as well. Patent leather and sturdier fabrics will be popular in short jackets as well as trench coats. Dresses: The elegance of flowing skirts and beautiful fabric dresses started to gain popularity last season. This dress trend will continue into 2008 but will incorporate other elements, such as bold patterns, complementary designs and shiny embellishments. Hello Dianne Von Furstenberg! Shawls: Ruanas are a type of shawl that is reminiscent of a poncho. Traditional ruanas are often made from heavier material, but fashion lines will feature lighter fabrics that are great for indoors or mildly cool weather. Ruanas are a very popular Celtic fashion item and you will find many in gorgeous Irish and British traditional fabrics. This year women are insisting that fashion be all about comfort and style.
